I’ve got 5 tips for you today! These have helped me increase website traffic for Be Bold Design Studio in 3 months.
Have you gotten stuck in a lie of there is no room for you in the blog world? A lot of times I have thought that everyone else has already said anything I could say. What I’ve discovered is that just isn’t true. If you’re like me, your audience may not in your industry, therefore they don’t see everything you see, and they don’t follow the same podcasts, blogs, or Instagram accounts as you do. And, as Marie Forleo says, “The world needs that special gift that only you have.”
I started my blog for a few reasons. I wanted to connect with my audience and build trust before they ever needed graphic design, branding or website design. As well, it is a helpful resource to answer questions more in depth that I get daily on certain topics, or create content that will be helpful to my clients AFTER they launch their website with me.
Next, I have big plans for growth with Be Bold and blogging played a huge role in this.
A couple of things I wanted to note – I DO NOT have a large following – 1800 followers on Instagram at the time of this post and the blog has only been running for 6 months, so I am fairly new. I also do not blog daily – I blog 1-2 week. I don’t always share on Instagram – a lot of times the post is put on Pinterest or FB separately and then if it comes up or I think it would be value on Instagram, then I will. I’m more focused on overall growth, not just Instagram. Last – I have not spent ANY money on blogging.
These few notes will hopefully help you see that you don’t have to blog like crazy to get started or have a ton a money.
It is so important to become a mainstream part of your audiences lives. Not only do you become more authentic – because over time you share more than just about your business and create connections with your audience – but you will see more loyalty and page revisits to your site.
Many times I see bloggers or small businesses ask their followers what they want to see. Or, the go-to excuse, “I don’t know what to post on Instagram.” The flaw in this is that you, as the content creator, are now not the expert. As an expert in your field – whether it is blogging, fashion, social media, website design!, you should know the kind of content your audience needs. And if you don’t know who your audience is – visit your website and social media analytics dashboard and take a look at who your followers are right. now.
There is a benefit to crowdsourcing blog ideas, because you connect with your audience, but it should be very specific and based off the content you have had previously. For example, for this post I let my audience know what I was writing about and if they had any specific questions regarding how I increased my traffic. This 1. Got my audience excited about the blog post 2. Made the blog post much more valuable to the audience because they helped me fill in the holes of answering questions that I might not have done before.
This goes in line with providing value to your audience. Ask yourself, after looking at your audience demographic, what kind of value can you provide without sacrificing your skills? For me, as a designer, I created Instagram Highlight Icons that were free and only required an email to receive them. Since implementing, I’ve receive hundreds of emails.
If you are a wedding photographer, can you provide a guide for how to choose the right photographer for your wedding? If you are a fashion blogger, do you have any tips or secrets that you use when styling clothes?
With all four of the above tips combined, my secret weapon has been Pinterest. Think of Pinterest as like one big image search engine. Your homepage is automatically populated by Pinterests algorithm based on the content that you would like to see best. You can also explore pins, or search specifically for items. The best thing, is it is completely free. I have not spent ANYTHING on Pinterest, yet I am up to 100k in monthly views. This is a goldmine for getting your blog content to soar – before investing your time in Google Ad Words, Instagram or Facebook ads, see what you can do with Pinterest FIRST.
I utilize Tailwind to streamline my Pinterest marketing. I love being able to bulk upload pins and easily paste in hashtags or descriptions. It’s super, super seamless and makes large-scale marketing a breeze!
I also make sure to optimize each pin by utilizing hashtags, filling out the description, making sure my brand name is on the actual image and utilizing Tailwind Tribes. I use hashtags to help be found by my ideal client. They function as broad search terms. #websiteinspiration #branding #creativewebsite are great options.
It’s really amazing how a concentrated effort, like the efforts I’ve described above, can make a huge difference in your business!
